Dr Talicia Pillay and Dr Andrew Gates from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) attended the Challenger Society for Marine Science Conference 2026 at Bangor University, representing the BORA Blue Ocean Research Alliance®.
The conference brought together members of the UK marine science community to share research, explore collaborations and discuss emerging priorities across marine science, technology and engineering. During the event, Dr Pillay presented Alliance research and engaged with scientists from across the community, strengthening connections relevant to the Alliance’s research and collaborative activities.
The conference also highlighted the importance of sustained ocean observations, innovative technologies, modelling and digital approaches in improving our understanding of the ocean and addressing environmental and societal challenges. With a strong focus on supporting early career researchers, the event also explored how the next generation of marine scientists can contribute to the future of ocean research.
